Little roots, big growth

A play-based preschool in Matara since 2000

Sakura is named for the blossom, because every child, like every flower, opens up in their own time. Sakura Pre School has been welcoming Matara’s little ones since our first day on 8th January 2000.

Our motto: “They Grow We Clone.”

Play is how they learn

Blocks, art, music, and pretend play build focus, motor skills, and confidence, long before a desk and worksheet ever could.

Sinhala & English, every day

Daily songs, stories, and conversation in both languages, so children arrive at Grade 1 already comfortable with letters, sounds, and simple words.

Ready, gently, for school

Routines, sharing, and following along in a group, the everyday skills that make the first day of “real” school feel familiar, not frightening.

Three classes, one garden

Play Group, LKG & UKG classes for ages 2½–5

Children move up as they’re ready, not on a fixed birthday, so the pace always matches the child.

Play Group

2½ – 3 years

A gentle first step away from home, settling in, sharing, and exploring through sand, water, music, and stories, with caring teachers close by.

LKG · Lower Kindergarten

3 – 4 years

First friendships and first letters, numbers and sounds hidden inside games, art, songs, and pretend play, with growing conversation in both Sinhala and English.

UKG · Upper Kindergarten

4 – 5 years

Reading readiness, early numbers, and the everyday routines of a real classroom, so Grade 1 feels familiar from day one.
